RUNNING TO SUCCESS

With bouncy music loudly blaring, and parents and teachers cheering, students bagged hundreds of laps on the lower playground at the annual Jog-a-thon. The Jog-a-thon raised thousands of dollars in pledges on Sept. 30. This year’s event again was organized by Mary DeGuzman. MC LaShawne Mouton-Mitchell, with microphone in hand, motivated the students to run those laps. Chuck Hornsby of Audio Concepts played the great soundtrack that kept students on pace to earn laps. A hot morning was made pleasant with plenty of water, spray misters and icy treats.
The PTO’s Jog-a-thon generates the revenue to pay for the field trips the students will take in the spring. Students earned money for each lap they ran. They now should be turning in the cash from pledges to their teachers.
Here are the people who signed up to volunteer at the event. Without ‘em, the jog would have been run at a snail’s pace!

Emma Huson, Jennifer Sanchez, Mura McNeal, Esmar Anqviano, Carey Hishmeh-Souza, Jayme Shafer, Caroline Rope, James Steele, Andrea Franco, Frank Balice, Jill Peterson, Yvette Moore, Marisol Murillo, Jennifer Martinez, Yari Fabel, Melissa Dixon, Lizbeth Bermudez, Adriana Romo, Elizabeth Reyes, Sarah Odette, Jennifer Sanchez, Merced Maxe, Mura McNeal, Carey Hishmeh-Souza, Liz Bermudez, Toby Holmes, Aruna Bolster, Marlene Takenaga, Mr. Takenaga, Gabriel R., Johana Flores, Heather Raymond, Kim Grossman, Christina Allen, Aaron DeGuzman, Sabina DuCasse, Christina Allen, Aria Zolfaghari, Michelle Manley, Josephine Erickson, Jessical Pfalmer, Jill Otto, Alicia Seinturier, Mr. Raymond and representatives from California Baptist University.
Cheering on the kids were members of the UCR womens basketball team and Big Mac, the dude in the costume.
Teachers and staff also participated, helping making the Jog-a-thon the best ever!

A highlight of the event – because it was hilarious – happened when many children from transitional kindergarten and kindergarten at the start suddenly ran away from the jogging course to down the field. Parents and teachers herded the children back to the course in due time. Too bad it didn’t count towards their laps! But the little kids still ran up some big laps!
Wait! There’s more! Check out our highlights video at Vimeo:
