Castle View’s History

Castle View Elementary School, established in 1967 atop a granite hill in Riverside's Canyon Crest neighborhood, takes pride in its history and unique features. Inspired by the sight of Benedict Castle, the school opened with 250 students and 8 teachers in four buildings. Over time, additional facilities were added, including the C Pod, Multipurpose Room, and staff parking lot, while the granite hill, which was known as Violation Hill, remains a distinct feature.

For safety reasons, it was fenced off in 2022.

The tradition of wearing green and white every Friday by both staff and students is a wonderful way to showcase our school spirit. It's a visual representation of unity and pride within the Castle View community. It's great to see how these traditions have endured over the 56 years, connecting past and present students and staff.

As a part of our history, we acknowledge the incident that took place in 2017, which impacted many of our current staff members and families. We remain committed to prioritizing safety and providing daily support to one another. Castle View Courage was a statement used to represent the unwavering courage of our staff members, students, and community. A statement that continues to unite us as we continue to overcome challenges and strive for excellence.

One unique aspect of Castle View is our exceptional Dual Language Immersion program and English-only classes, complemented by our offerings in STEM, VAPA, and rigorous learning opportunities.
We proudly boast an incredible Show Choir for students in grades 5th and 6th, and this year, we are excited to introduce a media club to support students in grades 4-6.

Green Dragon Strong, Green Dragon Pride

We are Dragons! As Dragons, we show up with confidence, courage, and strength.

The phrase "Green Dragon Strong" reflects the resilience and support within the campus community. It emphasizes the ability to overcome challenges and demonstrates compassion and friendship. It's great to see the ways in which students and staff provide encouragement, promote resources, display courage, and celebrate diversity, all contributing to the strength of the community.

"Green Dragon Pride" acknowledges and celebrates achievements and the unique aspects that make Castle View and its students special. The recognition of academic success, honoring exceptional individuals, and demonstrating enthusiasm through various activities and events show the importance of celebrating accomplishments and fostering a positive school culture.
